Your agent

Channels

Reach your agent where you already work - a WhatsApp or iMessage line Opereo provides, or a Telegram, Slack, Discord, or other bot you connect yourself.

Overview

Channels are the places people can talk to an agent outside the Opereo app. Connect one and you can message the agent from your phone or your team chat, with the same identity and the same memory it has in the app.

What you can do

Put one agent on WhatsApp or iMessage in a few clicks, or connect the messaging bots you already own. Each channel is set up and managed on its own.

Channels are per agent. Your support agent and your research agent can each have their own WhatsApp number or Telegram bot.

Two kinds of channel

Open the agent's settings and choose channels. The list is split in two:

Ready to use

Opereo sets these up and runs them for you. No accounts or keys needed.

ChannelStatusWhat it does
WhatsAppAvailableOpereo gives this agent a WhatsApp number. Link your phone and start messaging.
iMessageControlled rolloutWhen enabled for your workspace, link a phone to Opereo's iMessage number.
TelegramComing soonOpereo will create and run a Telegram bot for this agent.
Mobile appComing soonTalk to this agent from the Opereo AI app.

Pick this if you want the agent reachable in a few clicks.

Connect your own

Link an account you already have, like your own Telegram bot or Slack app. Most ask you to paste a key from that app.

The list comes from the agent's workspace and typically includes Telegram, Slack, Discord, Email, Signal, Mattermost, Matrix, and several more. Pick this if people already message your bot or number, or you want to own the account yourself.

Set up WhatsApp (ready to use)

Under Ready to use, click Set up on the WhatsApp row.

Click Link a phone. A short code appears with the number to send it to.

Click Open in WhatsApp, or text the code to that number from the phone that should talk to the agent.

The phone appears in the linked list within a few seconds. Full details, including how to link several phones and use your own number, are in the WhatsApp guide.

Set up iMessage (ready to use)

Under Ready to use, click Set up on the iMessage row.

Click Link a phone and enter the phone that should talk to the agent.

Click Open Messages, or send the pre-filled link <code> from that phone.

After the code is accepted, the phone appears in the linked list. The panel distinguishes unavailable transport, setup, awaiting a link and linked identity. Send a message and observe its reply to confirm delivery. Dedicated-line setup and customer-owned projects are covered in the iMessage guide.

Connect your own channel

Under Connect your own, click the channel. Its panel opens with a short description and, where available, a Docs link to that platform's setup instructions.

Fill in the fields the platform needs — usually a bot token or API key you copy from that platform. Rarely-needed options sit under Advanced.

Click Connect. The row turns green with a dot when the channel is live.

Step-by-step guides: Telegram and other channels.

A channel with nothing to fill in says so — "Nothing to fill in — … connects as it is." Just click Connect.

Manage a channel

Click a connected channel to reopen its panel. From there you can update its keys and Save, or Disconnect it. If the platform reports a problem, a red … stopped notice explains what went wrong.

Channels and automations

Connected channels, linked WhatsApp phones and recorded iMessage conversations appear under Send to in automations. iMessage targets retain their original line when the agent's default line changes.
