Telegram
Connect a Telegram bot you own so you can message your agent from Telegram.
Overview
Telegram is a Connect your own channel: you create a bot in Telegram, paste its token into Opereo, and the agent answers as that bot. It takes about two minutes and you keep full ownership of the bot.
What you can do
Message your agent from Telegram on any device, with the same identity and memory it has in the app.
A Ready to use Telegram option — where Opereo creates and runs the bot for you — is marked Coming soon in the channels list. Until then, use the steps below.
Before you start
- An agent whose workspace has finished setting up.
- Telegram on your phone or computer.
Step 1: Create a bot in Telegram
In Telegram, open a chat with @BotFather — Telegram's official bot for making bots.
Send /newbot. BotFather asks for a display name (anything, like Northwind Support) and then a username that must end in bot (like northwind_support_bot).
BotFather replies with a token — a long string of letters and numbers. Copy it. Treat it like a password.
Step 2: Connect it in Opereo
Open the agent's settings → channels. Under Connect your own, click Telegram.
Paste the token into the bot token field. Leave Advanced alone unless the panel's Docs link tells you otherwise.
Click Connect. The Telegram row turns green.
Step 3: Say hello
In Telegram, open your new bot (search for its username) and send it a message. The agent replies within a few seconds.
Add the bot to a Telegram group to let a team talk to it. How the bot behaves in groups is controlled by Telegram's own bot settings in BotFather (for example, whether it can read all messages or only ones that mention it).
Manage or disconnect
Click the Telegram row again to reopen its panel. Paste a new token and Save to switch bots, or click Disconnect to stop the agent answering on Telegram. The bot itself still exists in Telegram; delete it from BotFather if you no longer want it.
