Departments
Organise your company into departments - Sales, Operations, Support - each with its own agents, files, and connections.
Overview
Your company in Opereo is an organization. Inside it, work is split into departments, the way a real business is: Sales, Operations, Customer support, Marketing, Finance, Admin — or whatever fits you.
What you can do
Keep one part of the business from getting in the way of another: each department has its own agents, its own files, and its own connected apps.
What a department holds
| Inside a department | Shared across the organization |
|---|---|
| Its agents and their conversations | Your teammates and their roles |
| Its Files | Billing |
| Its agents' connected apps and channels | API keys |
| Its canvas layout | Your account preferences |
Most people start with one department — the part of the business they'd hand off first — and add more as agents prove themselves.
Create a department
Open the switcher at the top of the sidebar and click New department. (Your very first department is created right after you sign up.)
Type a Department name or tap a suggestion: Sales, Operations, Customer support, Marketing, Finance, Admin.
Optionally describe What does it handle? — one sentence. Your agents read it to understand where they work.
Click Create department. The new department opens with the New employee panel ready for its first hire.
Switch departments
Click the switcher at the top of the sidebar. It lists every department in the organization; pick one to open its canvas. The switcher also shows your Organization and lets you jump to Organization settings.
Rename or describe a department
Open the switcher menu for the current department and choose Department settings. You can change its name, its description, and its department address (lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes). Changing the address breaks existing links to the department. Click Save changes.
Engine settings
Choose Engine settings, directly below Department settings in the switcher, to open the current department's Engine panel. You can also open it from the Engine row inside Department settings. If the department has no Engine yet, this opens setup.
Shared Brain
On an installation with Brain configured, open Organization Brain from the switcher or Brain from the department sidebar. Choose the company or an available department to inspect its shared notes. Company notes are readable by organization members and managed by admins; department notes follow the existing owner/admin access rule.
Add a note as a reference, or pin it as an instruction to prioritize it during recall. A saved note can still be processing: Ready means it is indexed for recall. Enter a query in Recall and click Search Brain to check what the selected scope returns. Department recall includes company knowledge, while department notes stay in their own scope.
Open a note to correct its content or forget the whole note. Forgetting removes it from fresh Brain recall immediately and schedules storage cleanup; it cannot remove copies already used in conversations. A forgotten row stays visible without its original text.
The current Brain screen manages manually entered notes. Automatic conversation learning and employee access are not connected yet. Shared Brain knowledge belongs to the organization and department, independently of the engine; private employee memory remains with that employee's runtime.
Delete a department
Deleting a department destroys every agent in it along with the workspace they run on — files, conversations, connections, everything. This can't be undone.
Open the switcher menu for the department and choose Delete department, then confirm. If the department has a hosted workspace, its hosting stops too; see Billing and plans for how that's handled.
More than one company
You can belong to several organizations — your own company and a client's, say. Open the switcher, look under Organization, and pick another one, or choose Manage organizations to create one. Each organization has its own departments, team, and billing.
